1st July 2011 - Wellingborough based 45 Road Club are heading the British Cycling club rankings for the Central Region after a strong start to their road race season.

With a number of riders new to road racing already making an impact, the club has amassed a total of 178 points to hold a healthy lead over Virgin Active (142) and CC Luton (121).

Liam Stones, a double winner in his debut season, continued his progress by stepping up to contest Sunday's 140km Central Region championship at Chilton, Bucknghamshire, and finished a creditable 14th behind winner Roy Chamberlain (Team Corely Cycles).

A 72 man field had to contend with s strong wind and rain. Chamberlain opening up a small gap over the rest of the leading break of eight on the of the eight laps to win from Matt Jones (Team Raleigh) with Stones 4.30 and anothe minute to Kettering's David Palmer (Renault Rotor Colbert RT) in 19th, and Jamie Scott 22nd.

45 Road Club's Alan West attacked 500 metres from the line to score a clear win in the race for third and fourth-category riders in the  5th round of the Corely Cycles-Milton Keynes CA Summer Series at the National Bowl. West made his move after a brave bid by junior clubmate Chris Palfreeman who launched a solo break in the second half of the race but was pulled back by the chasing pack in the closing laps. Palfreeman had the strength left to take 6th place in the final sprint, earning enough points to clinch his move up from fourth to third-category, with Hannah Barnes (Motorpoint) 10th, Justin Garon (also 45 RC) 11th and Aaron Westgarth (A5 Rangers CC) 15th.
